Why

“And He said to them, Go into all the world and preach and publish openly the good news (the Gospel) to every creature [of the whole human race].”

Mark 16:15 AMP

CREATING THE MOST BIBLE-ENGAGED GENERATION IN HISTORY.

In 2007 YouVersion introduced a website where users could link Bible verses to rich media content. When we made that website accessible to mobile devices, people began reading the Bible wherever they were, and usage skyrocketed. In 2008 we introduced the Bible App—one of the first 100 apps in Apple’s app store.

Visionary Bible partners began working with us, sharing their translations to help even more people connect with Scripture. Through their ongoing generosity, the Bible App now offers more than 1,300 Bible versions, in almost 1,000 languages, with more being added all the time.

And Bible App users have responded. Today the Bible App has been installed on more than 225 million unique devices, all over the world. So far, Bible App users have spent over 100 billion minutes engaging with the Bible: reading, listening, highlighting, bookmarking, and sharing. The largest database of up-to-date, collective Bible engagement data ever assembled gives us more insight than at any time in history into how people connect with Scripture.

THE BIBLE IS GOD’S INSPIRED WORD.

The Bible should be at the forefront of leveraging technology and innovation to help people meet the living God through His Word. As new technologies continue to create new possibilities, Bible Labs draws on YouVersion’s experience, reach, and data—exploring entirely new approaches to engage this and future generations with the Bible.

How

BIBLE LABS ASKS QUESTIONS LIKE THESE…

WHAT IF YOU COULD HAVE CONVERSATIONS WITH THE BIBLE… AND IT COULD SPEAK BACK TO YOU?

What Comes After Apps?

HOW CAN BIBLE TECHNOLOGY ADVANCE BOTH INDIVIDUAL GROWTH AND ONGOING COMMUNITY BETWEEN BELIEVERS?

How might future generations better integrate the Bible into their everyday lives?

HOW COULD THE BIBLE INTERSECT WITH EMERGING TECHNOLOGY?

HOW WOULD PEOPLE EXPERIENCE THE BIBLE IN A VIRTUAL WORLD?

Can brain science advancements marry the truths of the Bible with human memory and inspiration?

WHAT COULD THE BIBLE OF THE FUTURE LOOK LIKE?

…AND THEN MAKES THINGS DESIGNED TO ANSWER THEM.

Who

In partnership with Bible societies and publishers, YouVersion founders Bobby Gruenewald and Terry Storch launched Bible Labs to explore new ways that emerging technology might intersect with the enduring truth of Scripture. Bible Labs’ talented designers and engineers focus on research and development designed to bring ideas to proof of concept—not on the operational details of launching or growing those projects or technologies beyond the lab. To give them access to YouVersion’s current production team and data resources, Bible Labs is based in Oklahoma City.

Bible Labs actively works on several ideas at a time, rapidly shepherding concepts through research, incubation, experimentation, and iteration toward prototypes, with lifecycles lasting anywhere from 3-16 months. When Bible Labs identifies a promising approach, the team packages their findings to be handed off to an outside operational team or partner organization, or to make them available for licensing.
